What is MiCBT?

Mindfulness integrated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT) is a highly effective therapeutic approach designed to foster deep and meaningful change in adults, children and adolescents. This evidence-based method, recognised for its transdiagnostic capabilities, addresses a wide range of psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, and more.

Developed by Dr. Bruno Cayoun, the founder of the MiCBT Institute, this technique emphasises the importance of understanding the intricate connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By exploring these relationships, individuals can gain insights into how negative thought patterns can lead to unhelpful habits and behaviors that may hinder their overall well-being.

MiCBT equips individuals with tools to enhance personal growth, cultivate mindfulness, and develop coping mechanisms that help manage daily reactive challenges more effectively. Through structured practices, adults, kids and teens learn to remain present, make conscious choices, and respond to life’s stressors with greater resilience and clarity. This holistic approach not only promotes emotional regulation but also encourages the development of a more compassionate relationship with oneself, ultimately leading to lasting change and improved mental health outcomes.

MiCBT 4 Stages of Therapy

MiCBT blends the mindfulness practices of Vipassana meditation with essential principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in four stages of therapy.

Stage 1:  To start, you’ll learn mindfulness techniques that help you pay attention, become more aware, and manage those reactive habits that can lead to reactivity.

Stage 2:  The exposure stage, where you’ll practice applying mindfulness skills to everyday challenges, giving you tools to lessen your conditioned responses.

Stage 3:    Here, you’ll learn how to navigate interpersonal situations more smoothly, gaining confidence in your interactions with others.

Stage 4:   Finally, we’ll explore ways to cultivate greater compassion for yourself and those around you.

How is MiCBT different to CBT?

Traditional CBT focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral issues. MiCBT takes it a step further by incorporating mindfulness practices, helping individuals recognise and alter their unhelpful thoughts but also promoting greater awareness and acceptance of their present experiences, enhancing executive control and expanding your 'window of tolerance'.

Take the step towards self improvement and growth with MiCBT.
